Professional Bio

At the age of six, I began teaching myself how to braid hair. Growing up in Seattle, I found inspiration from local braid artists and, as a teenager, I greatly admired the work of Mrs. Carolyn Battles of New York, whose creations appeared in numerous hair magazines while I was still in high school.

I later received formal instruction in a wide range of braiding techniques from Mrs. Velma Brooks and her protégé from Dallas, Texas. I had the honor of working as an assistant educator alongside Mrs. Brooks at the International Beauty Show, as well as assisting Rob Willis of Detroit, Michigan, and other respected educators during different events.

I obtained my Cosmetology License in Washington State in 1993. Shortly thereafter, I moved to Oklahoma City, where I worked at Eddy Gains Salon. My journey then took me to Denver, where I worked in several salons, including an African braiding salon, before opening my own braid salon. After leaving Denver in 2000, I returned to Seattle, where I focused on weaving and extensions.

While I continue to enjoy braiding, my true passion lies in educating parents of newly adopted African/Black children and biracial children on how to properly care for curly and extremely curly 4C hair textures. I offer braiding services, as well as educational classes, both in group settings and one-on-one sessions, in Austin. All group classes are held on location in a conference room setting. My work has been influenced by styles from cultures worldwide.

As a celebrity stylist, I have worked with clients from a wide range of backgrounds, including major league athletes, actors, singers, local newscasters, comedians, and other entertainers. Many clients have traveled several hours to receive a service or attend a class. I take great pride in the quality, care, and professionalism I bring to every client experience.

Currently, I work in a private setting in The Domain area of Austin, where I offer hair services, sell professional hair products, and customize wigs and silk closures. My social media platforms showcase a wide range of styles I have created over the years.

Discounts are posted on Craigslist for different groups.

Community & Nonprofit Work

While caring for my mother in Seattle, Washington, I created and became involved with a program called “Every Woman Is Beautiful.” Through this initiative, homeless women from various shelters were welcomed into my business location to receive free hairstyling services. In partnership with Seattle Central College’s Beauty School on Broadway, I also coordinated and requested free hairstyle services to support women in need.

Now based in Texas, I am in the process of launching a similar program and look forward to working closely with homeless communities here, continuing my commitment to dignity, confidence, and care through beauty services.

Thank you for your continued support.
